He's praising it just because he didn't think of it, being too busy enjoying every news site parroting his whining yesterday.

What good would it have done for him to think of it? He couldn't fix the problem; only Apple could.

Actual announcement: "Samsung Electronics has said that it expects its profits to surge 79% in the second quarter as sales of its smartphones continue to grow."

Look, I'm a Mac user, but it's time we cut down with this, it makes me sick like the stupid kids on Gizmodo. The Vizio computers look good and they are not Mac clones. They picked the right ideas from Apple that nobody else picked up and they are doing a great job without looking the same.

Oh, the computers look very nice, but they're a direct response to what Apple puts out.

The Thin+Light machine is yet another Ultrabook that competes with the Macbook Air, keeping in mind that the Macbook Air was introduced in 2008 and the Ultrabook initiative started in 2011.

The All-in-One desktop is clearly a response to the iMac, right down to the Magic Trackpad.

I don't understand the stigma of pointing out these "inspirations".

However, I do admire the simplicity of Vizio's product line. If it were Dell, the laptop would be called something like the "Inspiron 14z Ultrabook™".

I’m surprised nobody yet posted the obvious http://picturesofpeoplescanningqrcodes.tumblr.com

the difference is hypocrisy.

If you pick a long enough time span everything is eventually transitional.

I think you are not very clear on the meaning of the word disrupt:

interrupt (an event, activity, or process) by causing a disturbance or problem: a rail strike that could disrupt both passenger and freight service.

a disruptive product is a product that breaks with what was before and changes the course of its class of products.

It relates to market share only insofar that it needs enough share of its market to make an impact on it, which is not necessarily a majority.

Now, I think it’s a bit silly trying to say that mobile phones/smartphones/pocketable computers didn’t change after the introduction of the iPhone (see also link below by alanh: http://www.tekgadg.com/storage/Android_before_after_iphone_t..., or check how many phones with and without keys are available today, or the success of the “app store” model).

I don't mean to defend them because this move is stupid, but to help you get this back in control: you can go you your about page and set the @facebook email to be hidden. I had done this in the past and they didn't touch it.

No, that's the problem here: I had definitely hidden my @facebook email address (setting it to be visible to only me) when it was first created. After a number of people posted this story, I found that the email address was suddenly the only one showing. That's what is so nefarious about this. I had to go and reselect the options I had already chosen, and the only reason I noticed it was because of the press. Really slimy.

I, as well, have set the @facebook.com address as hidden and set my normal address as visible and public. After the story broke I found my usual address "hidden from timeline" and the @facebook.com address visible.

Does this fix any device synchronization problems, where someone you know had their record of your e-mail address changed to the @facebook one automatically?

It doesn't seem to be clear, as I write this, exactly what is going on there and how much is completely automatic/without consent vs. how much was "expected" behaviour. It's pretty clear that a lot of people aren't happy about it regardless, though. Even if some contact originally got onto your phone via integration with a third party service, that could have been years ago. If you weren't aware that the contact was only remaining there/unmodified because the third party chose to leave it that way, it's understandable that you might be upset if that changed without warning after a long time.

> But, man, talk about being over the top. It's Google's products that he's using for free. They don't owe anything to him.

So how do you feel about Facebook's email fuckup?

I feel 'meh'. I just fixed mine, and that's it. People shouldn't rely on Facebook for making new connections anyway. And my friends who are there know how to contact me better than to rely on Facebook only.

I mean, do people seriously expect these things not to happen? We don't have absolute control over these things. These companies only give us the illusion of control so we can make them some cash, at the end of the day.
