for me (ffox 3.5.15 on mac) it zooms the text but not the images, I would expect it to shrink/expand the images as well so you could see more at once.

Do you have View->Zoom->Zoom Text Only enabled?
(OT: you are using an out of date version of ff, latest is 3.6.12)
