Lol is everyone these days jaded? It's a fluff piece, it's not a PR announcement, lots of people are nostalgic or happy to see something lighter fare occasionally, not everything has to be "the world is burning".
I treat it like a regular condiment. I will make a stir-fry, serve it, and mix some in on my plate. So like adding ketchup to my hamburger (I add it to hamburgers too).
In all honesty, I was primarily echoing OP's bit where they said, "I'm just using my gut and it's going swimmingly."
More broadly, this kind of thing often makes me think of the idea of "self-reliance" [1]. In other words, the accumulation of career experience parallels the gradual process of learning to trust yourself and your (ever more finely honed) instincts more and more.
My 2 years old new job in another top university but in a mediocre group kills my productivity. Dozens of irrelevant things and people to care about. I get blocked/saturated/tired and unable to pursue my own personal goals.
Imagine there would be many shades of up and down voting in HN, according to your earned karma points, and to your interactions outside of your regular opinion echo Chambers.
As a person that is always thinking on the public interest, and what that means for open code, I cannot help it thinking "how long until open source overcomes his work"? A decade? 50y?
Right after a pandemic that disrupted to a degree multiple aspects of our life, I say this is not the right time to seek productivity. It is time to reconnect with yourself, your motivations, and your ability to build self enforcing social relations. If you have all these, congratulations, go for optimizing productivity!
