I agree with these "new rules" but isn't it odd how unelected DOJ officials get to effectively make new law out of whole cloth like this? I don't recall seeing anything in the constitution about the law making powers of the DOJ.

It's not a law, its guidelines. Basically meaningless.

You forgot to mention that white nationalists are to blame.

Please don't take HN threads into flamewar. We've had to ask you this before.

I apologize, that was not my intent. I withdraw my comment.

Appreciated!

Just an FYI. Every company talks about the great culture, work life balance, competitive pay and excellent benefits they offer. Jobseekers have to assume you are lying about those things, because most of your colleagues are. (this is why I suspect firms like new collage grads, they haven't learned that you have to give a price for a 50 - 70 hour week even though "overtime is rare") You can't really know how a company really is until you have spent some time and worked through a crisis or two. I used to think I worked at a great place, then the day my daughter was born I received dozens of slack messages and phone calls about testing environments and people were legitimately upset that I spent time with my daughter on her first day on earth rather than help them with their poor planning that could and did wait for me to get back.

Wanting me to jump through a bunch of performative hoops makes me assume you are in the "call you on the day of your daughters birth" camp.

Have you ever considered that classifying people who disagree with you as a race of subhuman monsters is "amplifying the negativity you find in this world"?

If a bored fourteen year old really offers a rhetorical threat to your argument, get new arguments.

The word "troll" in this context originates from the fishing technique, not the monster.

Proof?

How can someone be a verb? I'm a eating. Doesn't make sense.

"Troll" is both a verb and a noun. Originally it was just a verb: "to provoke responses by metaphorically dragging bait", but it soon broadened to mean "somebody who provokes responses by metaphorically dragging bait". And in modern times the meaning has broadened still further to include direct insults, which is a needless loss of precision in language because there was already the perfectly good verb "flame" for that meaning . But even after all the extension of meaning, the origin of the word is still the dragging of fishing bait.

"I Disapprove of What You Say, But I Will Vouch to the Death Your Right to Say It"

How about "I disapprove what you say, but you can go say it on your account, and not in mine, because your replies will be hidden, because it is my account.".

A large portion of unmarried men on are disability/work off the books I'd wager.

"Its a private platform"

>Medical schools/the AMA are artificially limiting the number of students and residents for their own ends (keeping wages and scarcity high) so they need to charge a lot... why? - I honestly don't know.

The AARP advocates for social security... why? - I honestly don't know.

Imagine if you put the teamsters in charge of infrastructure spending, every road in the country would be under construction perpetually. It would be illegal to shovel your own driveway without paying someone in the union to sit in front of your house and supervise.

Free markets and globalism are good for everyone except lawyers and doctors. The two professions most overrepresented in congress. Funny how that is huh?

What about... unskilled poor people in developed countries?

You missed the implied "/s".

>Isn't the point of a lock just to keep honest people honest? I mean you can buy the world's sturdiest, more secure lock and attach it to the world's strongest door, someone with a hammer can easily break a window.

In my home, the locks and windows (laminated glass[0]) are hard enough to break that when you attempt to do so I have time to ready my firearm. Something like this would potentially allow someone to sneak up more quickly and perhaps undetected. When my family isn't home I don't really care if you break into my house, insurance will cover the loss.

Out of curiosity, do you have a normal door lock on your door; one that uses the kind of key you can get a copy made of at home depot? If so, pretty much anyone can open it with a bump key and a couple seconds.

You can see it in action here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0CIlwSxsvU). His first try takes a bit longer than it should because he's turning too hard (simple mistake). Every attempt after that takes just a couple seconds.

I've got abloy protec 2's on all exterior doors in addition to door chains I use at night.

Thanks for the link. That's a nice looking lock. Clearly removes the possibility of all the well known lock issues.

This guy claims that he was unable to bump Kwikset locks: https://www.frontrangelocksmith.com/blog/the-best-lock-for-y...
