When I was younger, immersed in usability, databases, and big sites, watching the initial rollout of Facebook etc, I thought that a good technical solution could solve social ones.
Now I'm a lot more pessimistic and want to approach it the other way around.
One of the common themes at my last gig is that I would start conversations and presentations with "There are no technical problems here. These are people problems."
Eventually they tried to solve both problems by adopting a technical solution so bad that the people left.
