What happens when the drive is shared among Macs? Why isn't this a vector for exploitation?

Well, if you find a buffer overflow that can lead to code execution in spotlight (mds) or fseventsd then it very well could be a vector. Assuming no bugs in those (hah), then I'm not sure what you could exploit…
