Every time I hit CMD+OPT+SPACE on my MBP a system finder window keeps popping up. Did I miss something?

No, you didn't, I missed that CMD+OPT+SPACE is already used on OS X. I've changed it to CMD+OPT+E now.

Between the OS and the browser, there aren't many friendly keyboard shortcuts left.
