They are asking for money, not grandstanding. I believe in what they're trying to do and have a lot of confidence in them as professionals, so I have no trouble doing what they asked instead of what I might rather do.



Putting forth a good-faith effort, towards an admirable goal, is not grandstanding, the way I see it.


If you want to offer talent, I won't accuse you of grandstanding. For my part, saying "we could help do the assessment" feels like grandstanding. They asked for money, and this seems like a worthwhile cause to donate to.
