Intel should care if Apple wins. Apple is in the best position to change architectures. Again. Ubuntu is probably in good shape. But Linux by nature can't really switch primary architecture in an afternoon quite the way Apple did.
I'm not saying linux can't be compiled for ARM. I'm saying it's easy for Apple to just declare all new hardware that runs OSX is now ARM. It's not possible (or remotely desirable) for Linus to one day say, that's it, ARM only.
