This is what I term "Professional Paranoia" and as long as you can be unemotional about it, it can be an exceptionally useful mindset. I have internalized the Moscow Rules[1] and I constantly remind myself of what Bruce Lee said, "Be like water".

I'm not at much risk (except for maybe some of my HN posts!) and am not very safe, but I'm safer than I would be trying to be a public figure speaking out.

At times I have heard suggestions that I should start a blog, but then I'd be closer to being a public figure and more at risk.

Again, if my business is successful, then I will be less anonymous and sometimes have to hold my tongue!
