just FYI, most Americans, even many familiar with Britishisms, don't know what "A&E" is (or rather they think it's a cable channel).

(For those following along at home: A&E is "Accident and emergency [department]", or what Americans call the ER.)




Ah, sorry about that. Most people in Britain would be delighted and honoured to be invited to see ER...


And again, for the Americans (and others), in Britain ER is Elizabeth regina. I.e., the Queen.


I thought it was called the "casualty department"


I know a lot of people who call it casualty but on signs at the hospital it's usually A&E (Accident & Emergency). It might be regional or something that's changed over the years.
