I'm interested to know which social class your average hacker comes from. I used wiki to get the info of what class = what money, so it might be off. Since people tend to have some movement in their social class, use the highest # before you turned 22
Upper Middle Class -- $75,000-$250,000 family income/year
14 points
Lower Middle Class -- $35,000 to $75,000 family income/year
6 points
Working Class -- $18,000-$35,000 family income/year
5 points
Underclass -- Less than $18,000 family income/year
2 points
The Rich -- $250,000-$500,000 family income/year
2 points
The Super Rich -- $500,000+ family income/year

BTW, the dollar amounts are kind of meaningless for non-US natives. For example, I'm from Argentina, where the US dollar has gone from 1 peso to thousands of pesos during my lifetime (it's now around 3 pesos, after several sheddings of zeroes in the peso's part).

well its mostly by class, the $$$ is for people who don't really know...if you are foreign born list whichever class your parents were, at the age of 22.

This will be a difficult poll since almost everyone thinks they're middle class. I guess concrete numbers should add some clarity.

There's a big difference between a family making $75K and $250K a year. I wouldn't lump them together as 'upper middle class'

Working.
