Hasn't that always been the case at Amazon?



Indeed, I have heard that Amazon is a grindhouse many times before. It's understandable, in a sense: unlike other big tech companies, Amazon lives and dies on low margins. They're more like Walmart than Google, in terms of the business model at least. So they need to push devs hard and get lots of productivity out of them.
