Show HN: Chat with LLMs on Your Kindle (companion.ink)

After receiving a Kindle Scribe for Christmas, I wanted to use ChatGPT directly on my E-Ink display but couldn't find any existing solutions. Despite the Kindle's closed ecosystem, I discovered its browser _could_ support a simple chat UI.

I created companion.ink to mimic Kindle's UI sensibilities and deliver a pretty seamless AI chat experience on E-Ink displays. It works on Kindle Scribe, Paperwhite, and should work on other E-Readers too, but let me know if there are any issues. Feedback welcome!

This is really cool. It seems to me LLMs and books are a match made in heaven. An LLM query is more useful than a google search for most text. Would be cool to see this more deeply integrated, in a koreader extension or something

What is "Custom prompt to let us know what you're reading"?

You can edit the system prompt via the settings page, which gives the chat model additional context at the start of every chat.

E.g. You may tell it you're reading a particular novel, so each chat would begin `You are a helpful assistant. The user would like you to know they are reading Sapiens...`.
