That’s understandable, I hope they stand their ground and make the studios realise this is no way to conduct business.
I can’t imagine the same thing happening in any other industry. Your company asking you to sign away code that you’ve written, so an AI can be trained on it?
These companies are missing the whole point, and a VA’s job is a lot more than just saying the words. Just look at how the cast of Baldur’s Gate is still doing promotions from the game, one year from launch. People love it, and industry could stand to learn a lot from BG3’s success.
Your company generally does own the code you write and they definitely could use it however they please, also to be used in generative AI.
But getting your artists to sign away their rights and make them train their replacement or leave is so dystopian that I'm glad it's happening now that the technology and legislation is still new and weak.
This is exactly what AI and any technology shouldn't do: disempower people of their creativity and passions, it should enable to do more with less effort.
If the generative AI tools were used by the actual VAs to support their work (they generate 80% and fill in the remaining 20%) but it's used to take away/reduce their jobs in the future. Unacceptable to me.
