Everyone's focused on the dumb 'backups' pitch and missing all the interesting engineering problems people are mentioning as objections against it.

Because they're not interesting actually.

Engineering is about cost and benefit tradeoffs, compared to alternatives. The "moon data center" does not check any of those boxes.
