A List of Hacker News's Undocumented Features and Behaviors (github.com/minimaxir)

I wish I knew more about the "hide" function for tucking away threads. It used to be I could hide every single thread I had reviewed until I had a completely blank page, enabling me to dismiss every thread I had already reviewed. But within the past few months, only about 50% of the threads respond to a "hide" button press. I wonder if this issue is related to my browser (Mozilla).

I made a browser extension [1] (also available as a userscript with the same name on Greasy Fork) which automatically collapses threads without new comments and highlights new comments on repeat visits to the same item, if you don't want to have to do this manually

I couldn't find any licensing information in your repo <https://github.com/insin/comments-owl-for-hacker-news>; is it just source available?

In contrast to https://github.com/plibither8/refined-hacker-news/blob/22.12... which is MIT

I too have this issue and use Firefox, but not on 1/2 of the hides. Some threads just refuse to hide.

Very interesting collection and I learned a lot of history and norms that I didn't know. Thank you for this! Bookmarked.

This reading helped me a great deal in understanding this community when I joined, and it appears it’s been over a year since its last repost! I hope many of you get to read this wonderful educational piece by minimaxir for the first time like I did years ago, Cheers!

Also misses rate limiting.
