Ask HN: Shaking Up YouTube Recommendations
2 points by boristsr 6 months ago | hide | past | favorite | 4 comments
Hey HN I'm noticing my YouTube recommendations are narrowing more and more lately. I want to shake up my recommendations feed by deliberately watching some new stuff and wanted others to share what they watch. Really interested to see some smaller creators and some variety of topics.

I'll start, my stuff feed is mainly home lab, makers and tech stuff:

- Christian Lempa (HomeLab and IT)

- TechnoTim (HomeLab and IT) LTT

- NetworkChuck (home lab and IT)

- GreatScott (electronics and Arduino style stuff)

- Rachel De Barros (maker vlog and Arduino stuff)

- Tom Stanton (maker vlog)

- Xyla Foxlin (maker vlog)

- JSFILMZ (unreal)

- William Faucher (unreal)

- Corridor Crew

What I enjoy that is recommended less and less:

- Exploring the Unbeaten Path (urban exploration)

- Bedtime Stories (brilliantly illustrated folklore)

- Is It A Good Idea To Microwave this? (Many years ago this was hilariously dangerous videos)

Some technical recomendations:

ElectroBOOM (electricity and electronic stuff, ignore the "mistakes" and "explossions") https://www.youtube.com/@ElectroBOOM/

Applied Science (many advanced projects, the host is a HN user) https://www.youtube.com/@AppliedScience

Cody's Lab (some silly experiments and some interesting experimets and some weird projects): https://www.youtube.com/@theCodyReeder

NileRed: (chemistry, too much chemistry) https://www.youtube.com/@NileRed

Captain Disillusion: (short sparse videos, that explain and use special effects) https://www.youtube.com/@CaptainDisillusion

Applied science looks awesome!

And good call on NileRed and NileBlue. Great channels to see more chemistry than you should!

Try @Ninurta_Urbex for urban exploration/abandoned places.
