I would not call this "Financial Freedom through Badassity" (his site's tagline), it's more like "Financial Freedom through Being Frugal".

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Agreed, and while I would love to reliably get a 5% return above the inflation rate, its not always so straight forward.
