Scala Center Roadmap for 2024 (scala-lang.org)

No surprise that they lost investors. If I was a company invested in Scala Center, I would have immediately pulled my funding after Darja Jovanovic’s expletive-laden sexualised rant on stage during a Scala conference.

It’s baffling how a political sciences graduate with no commercial Scala development experience is leading this organisation, but for her to attack an audience and face no consequences, that’s beyond ridiculous.

When John De Goes called her out on this behaviour it was HE who got cancelled from the community (for "personal attacks").

And I literally facepalmed when language founder Martin Odersky endorsed the cancellation (i.e. career ruin) of a significant open-source contributor, Jon Pretty, due to a couple of tittle-tattle blogposts written by ex-lovers. Senior members of the Scala ecosystem becoming judge, jury and executioner of people's private lives, without any due process at all? That's morally bankrupt and deeply sinister.

Scala needs to be wrestled back from the politics, infighting, cancel culture and bait-and-switch licence abuse. The behaviour of Scala Center, Typelevel, Lightbend, Scalar Conference and others is reprehensible.

We need adult leadership now, before we alienate our entire community.
