How Many People? Ancient Demography (acoup.blog)

That page of text is no less riveting than would be a similarly-sized page written by Asimov. Excellent writing, especially given the would-seem-boring topic.

It's my prime reading material for whenever I'm having a meal. But it runs out too quickly for my liking, especially after I exhaust damninteresting archive. Anyone have any recommendation on other website like that?

I have a reminder for 3pm (ET) Fridays to check acoup.blog.

Whoop, whoop, that's the sound of the polis!

I like the reminder that research is hard, and unless you check whether your sources knew what they were doing, you'll be building on foundations of sand.

It's so easy for one party to say "there were X people here, I guess", and for the next person to take that number and plug it into some complex formula without ever checking how reliable the number is in the first place.
