The 96 core 7995WX: 3.6W/core

The 12 core 7945WX: 29.2W/core




The relationship between frequency and power consumption is very far from linear. The 29W core is running at twice the frequency of the 3.6W core.


Good catch. I hadn't seen such extreme differences before within the same product series.

Base frequency:

7995WX: 2.5 GHz

7945WX: 4.7 GHz


You should deduct ~60W baseline I/O die power consumption (~40W for 12 and 16 core Threadrippers), which gives:

96-core: 2.5W/core + 60W I/O-die 12-core: 21.7W/core + 40W I/O-die

Lower TDP settings are still available. With PBO, you might be able to extract more juice out of stock power levels.
