Really nice.

I'd love to eventually have voice models that sounds like AI's from movies or games such as Sunshine, Dead space, Halo etc.

I chuckled a little to see that Cortana (the VA) has dropped so thoroughly out of collective memory

Just when you thought Google's branding couldn't get worse, they name a speaker after a thermostat.

Slightly off-topic, but is there a good smart speaker you can more easily disconnect from corporate clouds and integrate with homeassistant? I was excited about the ESP Muse Luxe, but mine kept breaking, and from the reviews, it seems I was not alone. There are a lot of DIY guides for hooking a speaker and microphone up to a raspberry pi, but I'd like something a little less DIY.

Tethered jailbreak for older Amazon Echo Dots can be used for HomeAssistant integration, https://dragon863.github.io/blog/echoroot.html & https://github.com/Dragon863/EchoCLI/blob/main/shell/led.sh

> I have provided a CLI and two examples in my code here: one is a web server and client which records and uploads microphone data from the device, and one which acts as a notification indicator for Home Assistant.

Check out this project: https://github.com/toverainc/willow

Purchased one of the esp32 boxes, but haven’t had the time to set everything up yet.

from what i have seen at least, you can not not-DIY while swimming against the tide. Any startup promising you that will either upset you in a few months or so, or was a scam all along.

This is exactly the project I have been wanting to build. Unfortunately my knowledge of building schematics is a bit lacking. I sincerely hope this becomes open source, everyone has these things lying around. I'd love to give mine a second life with a Home Assistant driven voice assistant.

Talking to my Nest Mini feels like a blast from the past sometimes.Asked it to be quieter so it started playing the song quieter

The real thing it needs is lower latency, imagine that demo without the 10 second gaps between speaking and response.

Now, there's a good reason to buy a nest! I think I'll start keeping an eye out for them.
