So it isn't private.

I understand that the trade offs WhatsApp are making here, but even Telegram has E2EE in their similar offering (even though they have questionable security practices)

Just a bit saddened about Signal's progress of upsruping WhatsApp, last I checked they removed SMS, added Stories and stickers (?)

I'm not sure if these are significant enough for mass adoption. What Facebook are really good at is copying competitors quickly and Signal can learn a thing or two from that.

They absolutely don't have E2EE in groups, let alone channels.

That's even worse than I thought, perhaps another edge for Signal to introduce something similar here before WhatsApp gets there and takes even more mindshare.

No, what I meant is that Telegram doesn't have E2EE in groups or channels. Never has, and probably never will.

-Channels are a one-way broadcast tool for admins

-Searchable directory (optional for a channel to be in), but also invite links

-Following a channel won't reveal your phone number to other followers and admins

-Channel history stored server-side for 30 days

-No end-to-end encryption in channels (yet?)

i feel like whatsapp is slowly trying to reach at feature parity with others in the chat messaging market before next year's EU dma time limit.

They want these features out and people "used to it" before time because otherwise it would be too abrupt.

usernames

portability

communications between servers

third party access

remove the nonsense "scan qr code" method or 1 phone/4 users limit

so and and so forth
