Nintendo took a big risk delivering that patch during the early review period; holy cow that was down to the wire.

Supposedly the producer himself played through the game over 20 times. They surely knew the perf issues were there, in the early demos, and in the review copies. They must have had that patch in the works for a while to address the issues.. Crazy.
