A heads-up to anyone using the libera IRC network having matrix users via bridge in their channels; was just bitten by that.

Basically, IRC users can't see any messages by matrix users, but the other direction works fine. Might take some time until you realize the other person isn't mad/arrogant/whatever but simply can't hear you.
