The $42/mo thing was a hoax. Several news outlets picked it up since it looked pretty legit. In hindsight, the price point should have tipped us off.

Just did a bit of Googling and it seems a few people did "confirm" the $42/month price, e.g. https://twitter.com/chillzaza_/status/1616927021472354304?s=...

Could still be fake/hoax, but alternatively it could be real and OpenAI just dropped the price after consistent feedback that it was too high.
