Where are studded tires banned?



There are number of US states that ban them. There's a map near the bottom of the page here: https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/studded-winter-tires

I'd call attention to the "Upper Midwest": Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois. These are all states with severe winters and frequent snowfall, and all ban the use of studded snow tires.


It's banned (at least for regular vehicles) here in Japan. Stud powder dust is a problem. Since then, better studless tires being developed.

Edit: TIL it's not banned for bicycle/motorcycle


They destroy roads


So does salt and heavy plows. Also not what I asked
