I have a PhD in optimization / operations research. I'm the father of four young children, so I'm looking for flexible/remote part-time work, and/or contract work. I can work up to around 20-30 hours per week (this varies depending on whether kids get sick, if I have other contracts, etc).
My specializations revolve around optimization and operations research---essentially, I solve optimization problems. You can give me a real-world problem and I can translate it into a mathematical model that can be solved (often optimally) via integer programming, constraint programming, or various forms of metaheuristics. I could manage my way around new solvers and programming languages if the project required it.
I'm currently working on a column generation-based daily fantasy sports (DFS) solver as a personal project. Taking as input the predictions/requirements of the user, this solver can generate optimal lineups for multi-entry tourneys. It is, as far as I am aware, the only DFS solver that can generate provably optimal sets of lineups for multi-entry DFS tourneys.

I am a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Google Style, with experience at both large and small organizations. I've been using Kubernetes since the very beginning, been actively working at scale, and worked across the stack and with diverse technologies. I'm looking to help small dev teams increase their velocity by implementing best-practices of Devops: CI/CD, Kubernetes Deployments, and effective Monitoring frameworks. My current availability is limited; I'm well stocked on clients though trying to increase throughput and wrap up some projects. I'm available for consulting on your initial setup, for fixing your build, as well as on retainer for operational Oncall. I'm actually quite busy at the moment, but happy to have a conversation if you've got something small or forward-looking, or happy to forward it on to my network.
I've 16 years of experience delivering projects in large enterprises and early-stage startups. I'm a mix of both business and technical, and my expertise is in working with technical and non-technical folks to quickly bring new ideas to market while keeping costs low and quality high. I write most of the code, build the hardware, and occasionally hire consultants/companies to help.
* I bootstrapped a project from idea to $15k MRR - I built the entire thing using Node, Angular, Postgres, and Python running on EC2.
* Delivered a project that handles 2 million events per second, primarily built in Java.
* IoT project, which included building initial prototypes using Raspberry Pi, Arduino & ESP 32 + various sensors, hired contractors to make the final product (custom PCB and enclosure). I wrote firmware in C++ and backend in Typescript/Node/Express, Python, Postgresql, Redis, Typescript/Angular, and Swift for iOS.
* One-touch document processor & automation that digitized paper documents and took relevant actions. Built it using Node/Angular, Postgresql, OpenCV, Paddle OCR, Tesseract, Scikit.
SEEKING WORK: Remote / Southern Alberta. Will consider travel and relocating for the right opportunity.
My name is Brendan. I'm an experienced GLP/GMP/GPP QA professional with a bit of a programming problem.
I help regulated pharma and cannabis facilities with quality, compliance, validation and in particular streamlining those processes.
I closed out a couple of successful multi-year projects this year and am now re-emerging into the market, trying to figure out what's next.
I have hands-on experience in a Cannabis/CBD extraction facility as well as pre-clinical Pharma. I'm a Health-Canada approved QAP with security clearance, and a Registered Quality Assurance Professional. I have managed large multinational drug development projects and small QA teams.
I can also program, and have built and delivered custom software and a few full stack web-facing projects. Preferred technologies these days are Elm & Haskell, but I spent a few years tied to the .Net ecosystem. So if you need someone to bridge the gap between your software engineers and the lab bench, production line or regulatory department, I'm your guy.
I help companies building production grade firmware and software for (preferably) robotic systems.
I have been professionally developing firmware and software for over a decade, working on AGV control software, wireless sensor networks, guidance systems for self-driving tractors, optoelectronic volume measurement systems for agricultural applications, consumer robotics systems, securely connecting resource-constrained embedded devices with the Internet including OTA, custom embedded systems for AGV battery management, magnetic guidance, ultrasonic distance measurement, robot-human interaction and many other projects.
I'm a senior Android engineer with 10 years of Android experience and have worked on everything on the mobile development front, from complex UIs to extensive backend work, including consuming and interacting with REST APIs. Technologies I’ve worked with include ViewModels, Coroutines, LiveData, Flows, RxJava, Retrofit, Jetpack Compose, Room and others.
As a member of exclusive developer networks such as Toptal and Gigster I have been working as a remote developer for the past 6 years for enterprise companies like Johnson&Johnson and smaller companies like some Y-combinator funded startups.
I’m available for work on full-time and part-time positions.
DIGITAL MARKETING STARTUP SEEKING PARTNER(S) , Los Angeles , Remote
Pitch:
The digital marketing world has become complacent and too cozy charging obscene fees to business owners. It is too frequently that I speak to modest business owners spending ~$4k/month here in LA for all their digital needs combined to bring in more business. Not including what they actually spend on ads...
This is where I see an opportunity. Could you not charge $2000/month for everything all included? A small lean team of 2-3 skilled people can comfortably handle 15 client websites, social media, and advertising campaigns. It's really not a lot of work. This is what I'm on a mission to confirm.
I am starting a successful marketing agency and need a web developer or two. I have 6+ clients ready to sign (far more prospects) and we could probably get to around $10-20k/month revenue within a few months depending on execution.
Mainly looking for someone who can build beautiful business websites for businesses that need a refresh. You should have an eye for good design. However, still open to anyone with a useful skillset in whatever else.
If you have direct experience in running a similar agency/business I would really love to hear your thoughts.
If you find this interesting or have questions contact me to chat or work out equity or whatever.
Willing to relocate: yes, to any location in Africa, where i can get the necessary permission to live and work.
Technologies: Linux, Fullstack, System Administration.
Résumé/CV: on request (software development, CTO, mentoring, training, fluent in English and German)
Like a recent Ask HN: Recommend employers with positive social impact [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31518945], I am looking for similar work. I am a European software developer who has lived and worked on four continents. Now it's time to move on and so i am looking to relocate to Africa.
While i could find a job elsewhere i believe that the experience living in an area where my work is going to have an impact gives me a better understanding of the needs of the location i am serving. Whether it is through direct contact with clients and users or just by being part of a local community and learning about the reality of living there.
I have more than a decade of experience running a company, doing software development, support and training and mentoring adults and students, as well as working on educational projects, and i am willing to take on a mixture of roles as needed to support a project.

SEEKING WORK - Freelance/Contract - Remote from USA
I'm a serial founder who's built and sold multiple companies (like https://moonlightwork.com), and I've held leadership roles in engineering + product at major companies like Webflow and Trusted Health. But, my passion is building early-stage startups - and I use my background in software and product to help help companies launch a product or convert a low-code product to a coded application.
Here's how I can help:
- Scrappy MVP building. I scope, design, and build an end-to-end web app from scratch solo.
- Fractional CTO: I work with the founders to set a product+tech strategy, build and manage a team, and raise a round of funding.
I've worked in a variety of web stacks ranging including Rails, Vue, Go, Laravel, Python, and Kubernetes. I'm an advanced user of Stripe products such as Connect, and I specialize in building workforce management and labor marketplaces.
My name is Tavi, and I run a software consultancy focused on oncology. My clients include startups, biotech companies and foundations. I previously led several immuno-oncology research projects at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Before that, I led a small engineering team at Salesforce.
I advise on software and data strategy (particularly genomic and clinical data), build genomic data processing pipelines, develop web apps for e.g. clinical data analysis, and so on.
I'm eager to chat with anyone working on cancer or other devastating diseases.

SEEKING WORK | Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina, Central European Time)
Remote 4-person team of senior software engineers and designers here. We all have 10+ years of experience working for Fortune 500 companies and several acquired startups. Comprehensive knowledge of:
SEEKING WORK - Remote (London based), happy to visit you anywhere in the UK.
DevOps/Python consultant with a 15+ years experience building, hosting and fixing applications.
I work with engineering teams to make their products as scalable and robust as possible. AWS, Kubernetes, load testing, lambdas, CI, deploy systems, monitoring, config management, security audits, dev projects of my own - you name it I've done it.
Recent projects include:
+ Re-hosting a large microservice node.js + RethinkDB web application on Google Cloud. The resulting stack (serving a busy news site) is deployed to GKE with a set of Helm charts and a minimal amount of custom tooling for CDN & image serving. GKE has turned out to be low-maintenance and rock solid; I'll be glad to work with it again.
+ Rewriting a Python big data stack for a bioscience client. Result was a robust, scalable system deployed with Terraform/Docker to spot instances managed by AWS Batch. Benefits included better resilience, higher resource utilisation and vastly reduced cost/processing time.
+ AWS/Kubernetes/Docker deployment to support a large distributed (15 microservices + persistence layer) application. Updated a sprawling Django/Postgres app to fit modern containerised hosting, resulting in a stack that makes great use of k8s' scaling & resiliency features. Templating via Helm for multiple, namespaced stack instances & continuous integration.
+ Another AWS/k8s/Docker stack, this time with a persistence layer comprising Cassandra & Kafka with service discovery through Zookeeper. Prometheus & Grafana for monitoring.
+ Large multithreaded Python 3 application for automated crypto trading. Didn't get rich, still posting on here.

Non-tech qualities: Clear and open communicator, reliable, and able to not just implement but also design interfaces with business needs in mind.
Looking for: Clearly defined projects (<12 months) and also open to part time or smaller short term assignment.
Tribe.AI is a network of more than 100 top engineers, data scientists, and beyond who come together to do interesting projects (usually growth stage startups, a few publicly traded co's and some smaller startups as well). The community is also just a great place to connect, we often have virtual and now even some in person events in SF and NYC to learn from experts in the field or for Tribe members to present their projects. A few folks in the community have also used it as a launching pad for their own startups!
If you're a top-tier engineer, data scientist, or in the AI field more broadly, please apply to join the network (takes under 5 mins) https://www.tribe.ai/join

Technologies: HTML/CSS, JavaScript (jQuery, React, Angular), PHP, ASP.NET (C# and Visual Basic), SQL (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL), Python, Mobile SDK (Android SDK, Objective C, Flutter, React Native)
I'm redirecting my career path from industrial maintenance management to software development.
I've done, among other things, over 10 years of code maintenance and functions extensions in a live industrial production environments.
My current preferred tool set: Python, PostgreSQL, Django, Git, Docker, Linux. Now I prefer boring tools which allow me to concentrate on the problem at hand.
I'm open to other tools as needed.
My most recent project is Polish law change monitoring service available at https://unkot.pl. Access to the source code hosted on gitlab.com available on request.
In the past I've used go (golang), cython, neural networks with feedback loops running on CPUs, genetic programming.
SEEKING WORK - Contract, Remote, based in NYC area, backend engineer
I am a backend expert, having built and maintained highly available systems for several companies over the last 5 years, in addition to over 20 total years of software development experience.
The ideal engagement at this point would be with a firm that expects to need team-level help and wants to try me out as the lead for that on a smaller initial project.
You will like working with me because I:
* hold your goals as my priorities
* communicate verbosely yet synthesize well
* my rates are reasonable in exchange for the value I deliver
* I guarantee I will get the job done
Concrete examples:
* built realtime stats and the enterprise-wide developer portal for one of the top 3 major US sports leagues (golang/pyspark/docker/azure)
* portfolio management process replatforming for a midsize hedge fund (bespoke->dockerized python aws lambda architecture)
* built a ~50 node, Dockerized, Terraform-deployed distributed system to provide realtime, transformed trade data from crypto exchanges to a Kafka pipeline and data lake (fodder for an analytics platform). Met 5000msec SLA across arbitrarily many exchanges and ticker symbols. Blue-green deployment for complete CICD safety. Cloudwatch metrics proved SLA was met and provided general system oversight.
* built a framework to collapse dozens of singleton ETL programs into one config-driven, simple C# application performing the same functionality at ~80% reduction in maintenance cost year over year.
* built and managed a team of 8 engineers operating against multiple streams of work to meet business needs, with ~12 active projects at a time.
