Anecdotal, but I've been trying to buy an EV for the last couple of days. I've been to 4 dealerships. As a first-order approximation, everyone's out of everything. Around here, seems like someone could win just by having inventory. As if that were possible.



That's all cars currently, unless you want something very odd, with a lot of features that are tacked on to increase price.


Yet I see new model stuff all over the roads where I am, despite cursory searching feeling similarly futile. Did these people have great foresight, pay out the nose, both, or …?


Both - car dealerships are accepting pre-orders, but some of them basically run an auction. With some luck, you can find something you want without paying too much.


I know couple of people who very recently took delivery new cars, but they'd ordered them in September and April of last year.
