I don't understand why anyone is treating the display of a QR code as an advertising concept that an agency invented.
1. This is what QR codes are for
2. There's a whole section in QR codes ensuring this is possible
3. This is not even close to the first solely QR code advertisement
Don't get me wrong - it's douchey for CoinBase to pretend they came up with something
But also ... did ... did anyone come up with something here?
It seems to me like it's pretty similar to my saying "you should fill that glass with water," then you filling the glass and saying it was your idea, then my saing "how dare you, I invented filling with water"
Coinbase isn't just claiming to have come up with the concept, they are claiming no ad agency could have come up with the concept. I could see how this could ruffle the feathers of an ad agency.
Not being a regular reader of AdWeek -- how does it maintain credibility when the ad it ranked #1 was ranked dead last among viewers?
Adweek named the [Coinbase] spot the best of this year’s Super Bowl ads, though the mainstream viewers who determine the USA Today Ad Meter rankings placed it dead last among the 2022 lineup
