i helped her buy it and put OS/2 on it with emacs and LaTeX.
some time after i left, when she had trouble a helpful friend replaced OS/2 with a pirated copy of windows.
i then put linux on it and she continued to use that until she passed away almost 20 years later.
it helped that i was nearby so i could help her and she could learn from watching me.
i had set up a gui with shortcuts for her commands but eventually she started using the commandline as she saw me do it.
i created a LaTeX template for the reports and letters she wanted to write and a spreadsheet with a script to convert it to a LaTeX table.
beyond that she liked to play a few of the games that were available at the time.
