Self-Publishing Is Not a Last Resort. It Is the Holy Grail (passionatereason.com)

Self publishing is the only sensible way to go these days. Getting published traditionally has always been a crapshoot, with little to do with the quality of the work (look at the number of times JK Rowling and Stephen king were rejected if you have any doubts).

And it can be anything you want. Publish a novel for your grand kids? No problem. Want to make a full time living? It's a LOT of work, but your chances are much better self published than traditional publishing. And MUCH more under your control.

And trad publishing uses self publishing as a farm league these days. They want to know you can sell, before they buy. Although why you would want to change, if you were selling well, I don't know. I guess fifty shades of grey did this with some success. But there's a chance going traditional will sink your book like a rock to be considered, too.

There are several people in my authors group grossing over $100,000 per month. I know zero trad authors personally, that are doing that.

Currently the biggest total payouts still seem to be traditional, but their numbers are so small as to be irrelevant.
