Show HN: I made a drag and drop website builder that works on mobile (straw.page)

I like how you went full brutalist in your design, very unconventional.

Appreciate it!

I absolutely love this style, web-brutalism is refreshing to me absolutely every time I see it (which is not nearly enough)

Have you ever checked out https://brutalistwebsites.com? Yours and your demos would fit right in!

Yep, cool site - it's a shame they've stopped updating it though haha

There should be a seizure warning for most of those sites, why do most of them flicker so much?

The landing page is quite noisy, what with the marquee text and the top and bottom text banners, etc. I would recommend simplifying things a bit and going with a cleaner look, right now it kinda reminds me of the style of websites in the early 2000s. Of course if that's what you were going for carry on lol. The actual editor itself is quite nice, good job!

Conversely, I like the landing page very much. I believe author made it the way it is intentionally.

Yep, completely intentional haha. Wanted to make something unconventional

Unconventional may be cool, but as it is now the page is not usable, not clear, and actually annoying. If you want to make a product out of it, it would be a good idea to rework it around some softer touches and more professional feel.

I assume the intended market is people who like this style

It may still be confusing though that’s another point

This is definitely intentional. However, there are certainly ways the design could be improved while staying true to the style.

I really like what they're doing though!

I think it’s kitschy in a cool way! Kind of like mmm.page

Yea reminded me of the geocities days where everyone had a page that was under construction (with blinking text and construction worker clip art).

That was my favorite part of this page, very nostalgic.

100%.

Hey guys, quick update: HUGE update is releasing next week.

It will include a blogging platform (with a notion-like editor), where you can design your own theme + more!

Twitter for updates:

This is ugly as hell and I love it

The tutorial thingy is great!

I recommend some "under construction" gifs where the "COMING SOON" text is; maybe it's too nostalgic but it just seems like it would fit

LOL thanks! Major update coming next week also!

I didn't understand anything from the landing page (on a 4k screen). I tried to understand what it promotes, but it was way to messy, so I left.

I have no idea how half the editor controls work (on Desktop).

How do you assign colors to a button? There's no 'accept' action in the color picker, 'X' closes it without assigning the color, and clicking on the color rectangle changes it randomly on mouse over, before you can apply it.

Is this supposed to be mobile only?

Possible to return HTML/CSS/JS instead of a .straw page?

I know tons who would use it if that was possible.

This is so great. I love the chunky grid layout when positioning.

The eyes and other ridiculousness is what made me wanna try it out. Everyone's branding these days is so boring. Great work. :D

I love the style!! Satisfyingly retro, reminds me of the joy of early internet pages, before all these cookie-cutter super clean designs came along.

Haha, appreciate it!

I like the classic alert("Coming soon"); when Explore tab is clicked. How long did it take for you to make this?

The googly eyes really make this.

Looks great. You should package that stuff in an app. Kids these days love their apps.

Very cool to see a competitor to mmm.page. I think this is an absolutely awesome direction to get more people making their own, unique personal sites.

Great work, and I look forward to seeing your huge update!

Thanks! This actually launched first btw - also, huge update coming next week!

Ahh, I should have seen that possibility (that yours was first). Still, I like the direction you're both going. The web needs this!

It could be nice to have a multilingual page option on the paid plan. All page creators I know are a drag (some more some less) and you can get language switches only with ugly workarounds.

This is great! I've been designing something similar (but different) recently. The interactions like dragging on the grid to add an element are genuinely brilliant.

No offense, but some of those "themes" are hilariously bad. I love it!

The web has become far too homgenized and corporatized.

I got an SSL error, fyi. ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID

Damn, what page caused the error?

Damn. That's an ugly website. I'd be interested to know if your are making or will ever make money from this.

I'm no dang but...

God forbid someone not take themselves so seriously :)
