Literally within milliseconds, this site popped a full page interstitial asking me to sign up for their writing right in my inbox. Reading the other comments here I don't feel guilty for closing it immediately. Like no, I haven't even read a single word, you jerks.



Every magazine and newspaper, more or less, does this. At a certain point it's not interesting to complain about anymore.


They used to wait until you had read at least a single word of the article. Now, they don't. These sites should be punished in search rankings, as it is a form of cloaking (https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/guideline...).


Why should they be punished? All you do is press X and it goes away. This is hardly onerous, especially given that they are providing interesting content for free. It's far more trouble to get a book from the public library.


I clicked that link and was immediately greeted with a popover asking me to sign up for some Google developer program.


Yeah, annoying as heck.
