90+% of potential users will encounter your site first on their phone. If you want people to use your app, even if the app only works on desktop, the home page has to work as a marketing/informational site on mobile. That's just the way the web works. Also, I'm not one of the folks downvoting your response, but I do think you need to recognize there is a lot more to getting people to use your app than just building an app.

Desktop is not that dead :) Mobile traffic share is "only" about 60%. ( https://gs.statcounter.com/platform-market-share/desktop-mob... ). Though it might be higher for HN.

Oh, I do realize that. 98% of the visitors won't be interested in the app no matter how fancy the landing page is. 2% might give it a try. 1% of the latter might find it useful.
