Ask HN: Where to look for jobs at small companies?

I'm a UX designer who's interested in joining a small business that makes a useful software tool, as opposed to a rocket ship startup that is redefining market X. Is there a job board or a place to look for this kind of opening, or do you just have to know the right person at the right time?

If you're in a major metro local meetup/slacks are a great tool. They'll provide the intro without you needing to 'know' the person. I've done that successfully with engineering positions and you could likely go through engineers if the (JS) community is larger.
