I don't mean to be flippant (maybe I do) but these robots have been filmed doing parlor tricks for 20 years now. They've been through multiple owners that failed to find a market for them including Softbank and Google. Is there a real application that they will be cost effective for? Jumping rope isn't it.
I mean obviously jumping rope isn't directly useful, but you must admit we've come a long long way from the days of honda's asimo tumbling down the stairs.
So while applications might not be quite obvious now, that's not unusual for a new technology. It needs to exist first before people can explore the possible applications.
