A law in science is actually one of a very few things taken as true even if it isn’t. Newton’s laws aren’t laws because they are correct (they are provably incorrect at quantum scales). They are laws because when taken as true, they generate the discipline of Newtonian physics, which depending on your needs, may or may not be a useful system.
