This is so rad. If the demoscene had infinite computing power, these are the shenanigans they'd get up to: finding the coolest, most interesting scene they can render with a succinct closed-form expression.

I'm also reminded of an earlier, more innocent time on the internet when a Japanese artist used the X11 diagramming tool Tgif to draw pictures of cute anime girls using closed spline curves. (This same artist also supplied detailed, annotated English translations of Gunbuster and Evangelion which is how I discovered him.)


I was watching a behind the scenes featurette of Pixar's Brave and suddenly, there's Inigo! Turns out he was brought in to assist the animators with rendering the moss in the movie procedurally using a raymarching technique as he does here for the girl.
