How is this helping Google not lose to Bing, when the change would equally improve Bing experience (rising tide rises all boats?).



Not all websites are going to improve their performance, even with Google's incentive. If Google ranks fast websites better than slow ones, that gives Google an advantage over any competitor that doesn't, as long as slow websites still exist.


And it creates monopolies, perfect for gulag control of the people.


They're also competing with native apps. Apple News, as an example.


Google already has market dominance, they lose nothing if things rise equally for both themselves and bing.


They also do not gain anything. Then why bother?
