I wish Apple would introduce a "Border crossing mode". Not gonna happen.



Unrelated, 1Password has a great travel mode

It will only allow vaults marked "safe for travel", everything else is removed from device. Once you get past the security theater you can re-enable the non-travel vaults from your computer.


Luckily Android has that mode. They call it "Lockdown".

Does this provide any protection? I've never undergone any sort of 'digital search' do they force you to provide your passcode? Do the forensics tools they use bypass user level protections like pin codes/finger prints?


They can ask. You can refuse. If you refuse they can seize your device. If you are not a US citizen, they can deny you entry to the country.

Forensics tools like Cellbrite can actually bypass protections like pin code, schema then image your phone to do further searches.
