Basically, corporate people are allergic to paid managed services and are afraid of proprietary lock-ins (unless a VP heard it was what all the other VPs were doing). If the open source software has support contracts, and is cheaper, they leap on it. We're actually moving off GitLab onto Github, because it's just... better. Not only because managing it internally sucks, but also Github is just more polished. Still won't pay for GitHub Enterprise though, because we're cheap.
