My atttitude toward a Cal Newport article is that he's published multiple highly regarded books that I've read and found very insightful and applicable in practice. So when he writes something that's brief and does some handwaving, but fits within his overall worldview (like this article), I'm inclined to take it more seriously.

If you've never heard of Cal Newport before now, I can see reason for some doubt, but I also think you're maybe missing out on a lot within the field.
