Personally I believe the real abomination isn't the opacity and poor repairability but that the law is enforcing this absurdity in the intersts of only vested interests.
Now the prior two are clearly not good things in themselves but if our resources weren't being spent enforcing a cartel against our interests it would allow for natrual counters at least to bad practices from reverse engineering and design tweaks. If it is worth more to consumers for a third party to buy up stock, tweak it to remove the bullcrap (say lobotomizing smart TVs) and reselling it that isn't an infringement upon anyone's rights although it points out how the original manufacturer isn't acting in the interests of the customer.
