Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig. Not really a programming book though.

We must be REALLY different. AIMA is just one of those books that put me to sleep. Maybe I find vintage AI boring, or the book is just too fat, but I really hated it.

I will second that book. Very well-written, accessible and inspiring.
