From what I gather, RethinkDB hasn't seen a release since July 2017:

The project may be transitioning to new governance.

Yeah, it was taken over by the Linux Foundation.

I can't really say that RethinkDb NEEDS a new release.It's feature complete in my eyes. All it really needs at this point is maintenance.
