I agree with you in this case, but you shouldn't refer to your parent as a troll when they are a long-term participant on HN. I believe there is good faith in this this argument and there is no good reason to be rude.

It's pretty rude to bring someone's race, gender and sexual orientation into an argument. That's not good faith.
