I agree with your first sentence, but not your second: wasm is meant to access all platform APIs, not just the DOM ones. Canvas is part of the platform as well.
I think we will start to see a lot of all-in-one frameworks that use wasm for constraint based layouts so people don't have to learn CSS. I hope I'm wrong but I can definitely imagine something like this coming from the enterprise java/.net types.
