Author here. I worked at a place that had full root for everyone everywhere and introduced docker back in 2014. It was fun. Then I moved to finance where regulatory requirements mean that root is unacceptable. Whatever we think of that (and I now build openshift clusters at home to test, which I'll blog on soonish) it is a reality for a lot of people. Don't get me started on trying to use git on Windows either...
